The Enquirer understands that C J Pryor (Contracts) Limited and C J Pryor (Plant) were briefly placed in administration yesterday.

The firms were then sold shortly after to Hargreaves in a “pre-pack”deal.

C J Pryor put itself up for sale in January following a cash flow crisis.

A core team of around 20 staff were kept on from the 70 strong workforce to service ongoing contracts while a buyer was sought.

The sale and administration was handled by FRP Advisory.

FRP said: “”The business specialises in earth moving, civil engineering and related earth moving haulage for infrastructure projects ranging from road building to reservoir construction as well as for quarrying, landfill construction, land restoration and land reclamation.

“The business has nearly 70 years of trading history and works with a range of big construction contractor firms on larger infrastructure projects.”
